Salary Expectations Response Picker

Pick your field type and location. Get the exact wording to paste into the salary field. No salary number required — and none is ever collected.

Two questions, no numbers

The recommendation depends on the field type and where you are applying.

Your recommended response will appear here.

Both selections start empty. The tool never asks for your salary — it only matches the wording to the field type and your location.

How it works

A decision flow, not a calculator.

The picker walks you through two choices: the type of salary field on the form, and your location. From those two facts it returns the recommended response strategy and copy-ready text. It does not ask for your salary, your target, or any number at all.

field type + location → recommended wording (no numbers involved)
Why no number

Your salary is never entered or sent.

Salary is sensitive personal data. This tool deliberately avoids collecting it. The recommended wording uses placeholders like [your target] that you fill in yourself, on your own device, before pasting into the form.

Jobsistant records that the tool was completed, subject to the site’s analytics consent, along with the field type you selected. It never records a salary value, because the tool never asks for one.

Your rights

In a pay-transparency state, you can ask first.

More than 13 US states require employers to post salary ranges, and the EU Pay Transparency Directive is rolling out across member states. If you are in one of these jurisdictions and no range is posted, you have the right to ask for the range before entering a number. The picker adds this note automatically when relevant.

For the full reasoning behind each recommendation, read the salary expectations guide.
