USAJOBS officially allows an application update while the announcement remains open and says the agency reviews the most recent submission, although it retains old and new information. A material error affects identity, contactability, eligibility, minimum qualifications, required documents, or the truth of the application. A cosmetic error is embarrassing but does not change the employer's understanding of your candidacy. Keep the message factual. Do not write a long explanation, send several versions to multiple employees, or ask the employer to overlook an eligibility requirement. Use the contact in the posting, confirmation email, or candidate portal. If there is no contact channel and the error is minor, continuing the search may be the most proportionate response.
Record the correction and prevent a duplicate mistake.
Save the submitted resume filename, application date, requisition ID, confirmation, error discovered, correction sent, and current status.
