Job Application Status Decoder — What Does That Status Mean?

Application statuses use confusing language. “Process Complete” usually means rejected, not finished. Decode what your status actually means and what to do next.

What does that status mean?

Application statuses use confusing language. Get a plain English translation.

Your status translation will appear here.

Select your application system and the status you see. The decoder explains what it actually means and what to do next.

Method

How the decoder works.

The tool maps common status labels used by major applicant tracking systems to plain English meanings. Each status includes a tone indicator (positive, pending, in progress, or not selected) and a recommended action.

Statuses are based on how each ATS typically labels application stages. Employer configurations vary — some companies customize status labels or disable the candidate portal entirely.

Common confusion

The statuses that trip people up most.

Workday “Process Complete” does not mean your application was successful. It means the hiring process for that role has ended — usually because the position was filled.

Workday “No Longer Under Consideration” is a rejection. It is role-specific, not a ban — you can apply to other roles at the same employer.

“Under Review” on most systems means someone has opened your application, not that you have an interview. It is a neutral state.

Lever and Ashby do not have status portals.

If you applied through Lever or Ashby, you will not see a status page. All updates come through email from the recruiter.

Privacy

Nothing is sent or stored.

This tool is a static lookup. Your selections are not transmitted or stored. Analytics may record that the tool was used, subject to consent, but never the ATS or status you selected.
